  so, here we are again, nearly xmas, to buy or not to buy... presents..  choosing  that special prezzie for that special person in your life can be a nightmare, and me, i'm the one still wandering around the shops on xmas eve , lost and still wondering... yes, you start getting the ' hints ' in about sept.... but then, it wouldn't be a supprise present would it ? so all you a/bankers 'whats that special gift you;ll want, or give this year ? whats the most 'unusual gift ' you've ever bought or received ?,, a girl once bought me a fivers worth of petrol ! 'cos when i took her out, we got stranded, ran out of petrol in my car !  one even bought me the welsh national rugby jersey, she wore it more times than i did ! so, c'mon, whats it to be this year ? is 'he' too tight to buy you anything ? knew a fella once who bought his wife new wheel trims for his car !!,, another one , years ago, bought his misses 5 ton of coal for the house fire ! you have to laugh dont you ? what's it to be ? and i'd love to have some 'unusual gifts presented ' answers from you ladies please ....

I got a tumble drier from my husband one year!  I was not impressed but I pretended to be pleased.  He thought I would be delighted.  Fortunately, he has become much better at buying presents over the years and now buys me really lovely suprises.

When my dad was in his teens he went through a phase where he would eat nothing but breakfast cereal, so his auntie bought him three boxes of cornflakes for xmas!

I would love someone to treat me to a drive around the Brands Hatch or Silverstone circuits in a Ferrari, but think that's a touch expensive.

I once bought my bloke a giant cookie from Millies Cookies with the words "Merry Christmas Homer!" iced on it! Sad i know! ha! Luckily he saw the funny side of it!

Last year for Christmas I bought my husband a talking George Bush doll and a pair of gel-inserts for his shoes. LAME. Then his mother bought him a panoramic rear-view mirror. LAMER. That's what happens when we're pressed for gifts. I hate it and vowed this year to not buy anything. Since it all ends up collecting dust in the closet anyway I figure I'd rather not waste the few dollars I have on a bunch of forced crap. I'm trying to learn to knit so I'll knit my father a tie (don't see many of those!) and aside from that spend some rare quality time with him. The In-laws are getting a gourmet meal. I think spending a day sweating in the kitchen for some good food then having a laugh over supper is much more sincere. For my husband I'll get a babysitter so we can go out all night and do everything HE wants to do. Simple, I know, but everyone who doesn't like it can go tuck their blanks.....

Last year I bought my husband some 'rubberwear'.  My sister-in-law looked dumbstruck when I told her what I'd bought and she later asked why I'd bought him Tupperware.  He loved his wetsuit.  He also loved the day at Thruxton racecourse I bought him many years ago.  We had gone abroad for Christmas and he knew his present was in an envelope so was prepared to be unimpressed.  He had a great day although he was too big for the wee racing cars and had to use a Formula Ford instead.  It's not just the expensive gifts that hit the mark.  Last year I bought him the Yes, Minister scripts, �1.50 from a charity shop and he was thrilled.  He struggles to buy me gifts though and never seems to hear the hints which are dropped from a great height.  I DO like practical gifts and have had a coffee grinder, ice cream maker and foot spa in past years which were all happily received.

Many moons ago, my husband bought me my first electric food mixer for Christmas - which did everything. I have to say that although it wasn't a personal gift, I knew he must have saved up for ages to buy it, so it was very special to me, bless him.

 

He always buys me lovely presents, along with the help of our two daughters. I love Victorian things, also unusual rustic/wooden owls, wooden/pewter/bronze cats, pixies fairies, thimbles etc. I am also into flower arranging & writing etc., so anything to do with those I'm very happy with.

 

I also had a voucher for a helicopter lesson inside my 50th birthday card, which was a wonderful surprise & a wonderful day!.

Im no good at choosing presents so all the ones i buy must all be strange, my mum got my dad a radio controlled helicopter for his 50th and he loves it !.

Lol YINZER !! your getting your husband the babysitter for christmas, thats thoughtful, understanding and very open minded, i hope he likes her !!!

The most unusual gift I received was a piano from my husband. When my older brother was a kid 'santa' brought him a jet black little dog - a real one (a mix between a Japanese spitz and a Scottish terrier) who was seated under the x'mas tree.

My best ever present was a bracelet I got last Xmas from my fella, it's beautiful and he's a wonderful present picker (it's my birthday tomorrow so I'll let you know!). Worst ever gift probably from a mad aunt of my mum's who gives empty coffee jars stuffed with cotton wool and little UHT milk cartons. Oooh, and those red plastic 'pearl' necklaces from crakers? Those too. This year I am buying my man a chain, as on holiday this year his snapped and got lost on the beach. It was the first ever gift I'd bought for him so he was absolutely gutted when he lost it.

My bf usually gets me great presents, thankfully. The best was my engagement ring in 2002! I do tell him what I want so it's rarely a surprise. But I have to confess to being ever so slightly disappointed with the hairdryer he got me last year, I did totally need a new one and it's a very fancy and expensive model, i just wanted something a little less practical!
