Microsoft Outlook

I hope this isn't a stupid question but here goes.
When a reminder for a task has been set up, does Outlook have to be open for it to pop up on the computer? What I mean is, can I change the settings somehow to allow the reminder box to pop up even when Outlook isn't open?

No. Outlook must be opened or minimised for any Outlook features to work.
