help disguise root regrowth!?

hi, about 5 months ago i dyed my hair an auburn/dark brown colour and now my roots are starting to show. they are not that visable as my natural colour is a medium brown but still i don't think it looks too great! any ideas on the best way to minimise the roots without applying an all over dye as i want to go back to my natural colour? also, any suggestions on get ridding of red-ness in hair colour? thanks in advance xxx

Hi Megemm. It sounds like you have used a permanent colour on your hair and unfortunately it will have to grow out. You can minimise the difference by using a "temporary" hair dye. That is one without ammonia. Get one nearest your natural colour. You will have to use it every few weeks to keep the red colour covered. To minimise redness dont use any colours with the word "warm" or "golden" in the description. Dont be tempted to use a "very dark brown" as it comes out black!!!

When I colour my hair and want to stop colouring it, I go to the hairdresser and get her to put an all over permanent colour in it which is as close as possible to my natural hair colour and roots.

I thought there may have been some noticeable difference in the natural coloured bit (ie the roots) and the bit that was coloured to cover another colour, but each time my hairdresser has been able to match it perfectly!
