home made adult leg warmers what needles

what are the best circular needles to buy please and are they easy to use.what length do i need and last of all would 5mm size sound right.
i want to make some because camt find the ones i want in stores as they went out in the eighties and left me there i think.

Depends what wool you will be using as to the size of needle .For DK 4mm is best .5mm is more Aran and anything larger chunky weight . As for length I would say that a 40cm length would be enough depending on the size of your leg !.
They are easy to use ,just make sure you keep the stitches tight at the join on the first few rows and that it doesn't twist as you knit round. There are lots of tutorials on the web if you are not familiar with circular knitting .
You can knit them on two needles though ..lots of patterns here

Thank you sooo very much brilliant although I have now put an order in for 80cms so hope they can be cut down oops .If not I will get the ones you have mentioned.You have been very helpful.Answerbank is brilliant.their is always someone with an answer.
