The last thing this country needs is Sharia Law.
I was only reading yesterday of a woman in Saudi who was jailed, simply because she was sitting in a cafe, with a group of men who she did not know, drinking coffee.
She was jailed for a month. If that is Sharia Law they can keep it.
Imagine on the tube going to work, you sat next to a man, who you did not know and you could be imprisoned!!

Surely not an outburst Ice..........unless you're a journalist? lol
To take one example - there is already a Jewish court system upholding Jewish CIVIL law in this country. It operates alongside our national civil system. I'm no apologist for the Archbishop, but I guess he was just suggesting that a similar arrangement seems inevitable given the largish Muslim population we now have.
As with the Jewish one, this would run alongside our system - not INSTEAD of it - settling civil matters - divorce, arbitration and the like.

As many people post on hear say, it is yet more proof that an Islamic state is set to take over. Can you imagine this being proprosed in France/Germany or Italy - it would be laughed out no sooner than it had been mentioned.
Its very frightening to be honest when you actually think about the proposals, many political figures from the past would be turning over in their graves if they heard this.
To think of everything our people used to fight for, to think our men are over in Afghanastan fighting for better lives for people and the ArchBishop of Canterbury has the audacity to make this statement!
What does being English mean anymore?!!! Very, very sad state of affairs, I just can't wait to emmigrate and get away from the ludicracy!

Put like that TB, it doesn't sound so bad does it? Actually, I think it was suggested, so as things like Muslim women not having to go through British divorce courts would be of help to them. However, I have some wonderful Muslim friends, who've talked about what Sharia Law entails. Once the foot's under the carpet, don't you think that more and more of their laws'll be expected to be accommodated?
former Australian Prime minister john howards speech on the subject and d I thought he was spot on

Just read the comments, and the sheer number of them !!!
I can not remember ever reading such an outpouring of anger. You will be hard put to find anybody in agreement - on the BBC as well.
It's also running on here in News.

A big big story, I hope it gets maximum coverage and runs for weeks.

I could not agree with you more Ice Maiden, I have been to many different countries and have friends from different ethnic backgrounds, and it has to be said I am certainly not generalising, but if you choose to live in England, you abide by English Law. I could talk about this until I am blue in the face, its like in France, they have not permitted school children to wear the burka (not sure of the correct spelling), quite right! I don't know where it all went so wrong though and England became so un-patriotric, the nation does not seem to have a voice like it once used to, it is very, very sad, my Ancestory would be mortified if they saw England today!!!

Hi Ice-Maiden and Whiffey, I replied to a question not so long ago as diplomatic as ever and I was advised it had been removed, so I am just concious of not saying too much now.
Its great to come on hear though and get stuff off your chest and see that your views are shared by a majority, because sometimes your feel like your going mad when you read and hear about ' modern day Britain'!
