Mine used to be about 1 week and I was a right bitch! Thanks heaven for the menopause.

mine is usually about two weeks before my period I also get very weepy and emotional I could cry at the smallest thing a song or something on t.v.

And when Im not crying I turn into a physco bitch shoutin and screaming for no reason at all and the day before I start I always get a really bad migraine which stays with me all day and no tablets shift it,

I did go to the doctors about this and she suggested oil of evening primrose to calm me down but I still haven;t got round to it yet so im still a mad weepin physco which my bf puts up with each month!

I have often had PMT for up to two weeks, crying and being snappy and difficult etc.The thing that gets me is that every time it happens I'll be sitting in floods of tears apologising to people and saying 'I dont know whats wrong with me'!It takes me by surprise everytime. You'd think I'd learn by now!!

No you are not making excuses christie & have you considered going to see your GP, as he/she may be able to help you with this problem.

I used to suffer from chronic PMT & I can honestly say that at times I felt like murdering someone. It used to start about 7 days before my period & last right up to the moment I came on. Then when I did, my mood would suddenly lift & I would feel so guilty at having been such a tetchy old cow! As FINA says, the menopause does have its benefits.

I have been to my gp who reccomened evening primrose oil which iv been taking for months along with b6 and omega oils but that two weeks before my period is a nightmare im normally happy and in control but im an emotional wreck them weeks, thankyou though all for your replys at least i no its not just me ,I dont think its fair for us women is it.
I totally agree with all the answers here, i also thought it was just me.  About a week before my period is due the slightest thing really winds me up, i often feel like ripping my bosses head off and surprise myself each time that i don't tell him where to go! My bf also puts up with my mood swings and then as soon as my period starts i feel calm again, it's like a release??!!  It's strange that at the time i never put it down to PMS and just presume it must be something else, it's only afterwards i realise thats what it is. I also went to the docs and was told to take Evening Primrose but the capsules were massive i could'nt take them, so i (and everybody else) just puts up with it!
You don't say how old you are christie, but it is common for PMS to change in severity, and also in the time of the cycle when you suffer, as you get older. Personally I feel like a coiled up snake waiting to pounce, the worst time being about the 3rd week of the cycle. I swear I can feel the blood pumping through the veins in my temples with all the pent up rage! Then I am manic for a few days, before returning to normal about 3 days before my period is due. Exercise can help, and there are loads of websites and books about vitamin supplements, or dietary changes that can ease the symptoms - it's a matter of finding what suits you.  I laughed at what BUNNY said, because even at the ripe old age of 39 I am still surprised by it every month. I pity my husband and son, they are so tolerant - but I pity my daughter even more, I hope she doesn't suffer too.
