In our office it has been decided that we should have fun. This is meant to help with motivation I think.
For instance we are currently in the throes of 'Jolly January' with quizzes and 'mad days' (ie very sad dress-up capers from management).
All this is very Ho Hum but now its getting closer to home. Part of this 'fun' making is delegated to various teams within the office and my team is responsible for February. Now the big question is ...how?

Quizzes are out really -having been done to death during Christmas. Any ideas what activities we can offer to encourage others to take part-and by the way ,opting out is not an option.

all of the females should propose to a chosen male on Feb 29, followed by a mass wedding
The Anglo Saxons called February Sol-monath(cake month), because cake was offered to the gods during that month. So you could get everyone to bring some cake of their choice in on one of the days.

Februarys birthstone is Amethyst, so maybe you could get everyone to wear purple/lilac for a day.
Run a competition for the best "in-house" topical limerick - pick the top ten to be read out at an end of month party.

February was in ancient times the month for purification (the origin of our spring-cleaning, I suppose) since by then the days are noticeably longer and the sun can be felt to have some strength. Not only that, but February is usually a dry month. So, think cleaning and decluttering...

If that doesn't appeal, then there is Shrove (Pancake) Tuesday or Mardi Gras or Carnival (call it what you will) on 5 February this year, St Valentine on 14th, Leap Year day on 29th (a Friday this year), so there's three things to build something round.
Don't do it!!!

REJECT institutionalised jollity.

Oh how I wish we could reject institutionalised jollity but that isnt an option -not with all the 'initiatives' in place to make the office a happy place to be. Inside I may be saying Bah humbug but I know what side my bread is buttered on and I just play along I'm afraid.

But aside from that I appreciate the answers. Im just not sure exactly what we can do around the notable days. We already have cake aplenty (and sweets/chocs etc at the drop of a hat) but I could perhaps do something with cake swapping. And wearing purple is a good choice since we will all be sick to death of wearing yellow for Jolly January.
And maybe a poem for valentines will do with a limerick writing comp.
Im all for a spring clean too so maybe we can come up with a pithy slogan to urge everyone in the office to get rid of all the stuff hanging around since before Christmas.
Cheers
What about a guess the unusual object competeion or have people suggest new uses for an everyday object.

Bring in your funniest photos day.

Biscuit decorating where you use icing pens to decorate your own biscuit.

Valentine card competition. Who can make the most inventive card.

Who can go the longest without chewing a fruit pastel.

get a magnetic dart board and have a darts league.
Also, we had clean out days at work - they were called "bash the trash" get your facilities management involved to bring up extra bins for the paper to be recycled - see if you can find a local charity that wants old box files and binders.

This is a great excuse to get rid of all the horrors you have been hiding!
