Hotels.

I've not met many people who don't like hot toast with melted butter on top, with what ever else, so can someone tell me why hotels always dish up cold toast in a grubby toast rack, or bring it half an hour before you want it.?

If served with a full English. i tend to put an egg or cooked toms on top of the toast so it doesn't matter if it is hot or cold.
But if you prefer it hot just tell the waiter/ress to return with some hot toast and pronto.
Most caterring staff, even in 5 star hotels are communist bloc peasants anyway, so do not feel obliged to talk to them as human beings.

This is a differnt situation, obviously, but I stayed in a B&B in York the other week and they got round this problem (and the one of people who like toast well done versus people who like it with no colour whatsoever) by just having a toaster in the dining room and leaving an assortment of breads by it, so that whilst you waited for your choice of cooked breakfast, you had the usual cereal, juice and yoghurt in the meantime (or after), plus your toast, just as you liked it, with whatver you wanted on top of it. It was great.
