No bridge tolls in scotland
According to BBC news this morning, after midnight tonight, all bridge tolls in Scotland will be scrapped and all bridge maintenance will be undertaken by the Scottish Government. Well, good for the people of Scotland, but when are the English Government going to catch up with Scotland and give us toll-free bridges, free prescriptions, and abolish the unfair post-code medicines. After all said and done aren't most of our MPs Scottish ?

I think there will be some English that will want to emigrate to Scotland before very much longer. It's just getting accustomed to those rather silly plaid skirts that's the problem.

I think instead of bleating about what us Scots (and Welsh) get they should be more pro-active instead of lying down to it.
I think you will find that your last remark was just a throwaway remark -however if there are Scottish MPs in English constituencies -English people must have voted them in.
Its true BTW -I posted a week or so ago to say that Scotland were going to be toll free on the 1th Feb.We I am led to believe will be getting free scripts shortly -Welsh already have them.
I dont understand the discrepancies TBH -but I'm not going to complain about them !!!

devolved government in scotland and wales mean that they get to spend their portion of money on what they like. Spending the money on prescriptions and bridge tolls, means they have les m,oney to spend on other stuff, its just a question of balancing priorities. it dosent mean the english are missing out, just that our politicians have different priorities. Personally i, living in england, dont want my taxes to pay for everyone else in england's pescriptions, so i'm pleased. They can pay for them themselves as far as i'm concerned
Looks like I've opened a can of worms.
Sorry if I've upset anyone, but I did say that the Scottish government was undertaking the maintenance costs.
And yes the English did vote the Scottish MPs into our parliament, but I would have expected some sort of parity.
I really feel that we should all come under the same umbrella.

Well lobby for it -I totally agree with you on that score -I have no idea at all why you dont have a devolved parliament.
Just because Westminster is in England doent mean it only deals with England -although some do think that and therein lies the problem.
I know that we in Scotland fought and fought four parliament and I think you should all do the same.
It clearly isnt fair -but as I said before (not verbatum) we are reaping what we sowed - and we are clearly benefiting.
If the shoe was on the other foot I know personally that I would kick up -but not against the English -I would make my MPs life a misery -lol.Thats the only reason we got it after decades of demanding it.
I know you werent having a pop at the Scots BTW
I would be as tee'd off as you.

Rights or wrongs don't come into it. Devolution must work and must be seen to be working - otherwise no-one will want it. Its architects (Scotland's Nationalists and England's Labour Party) will do whatever is necessary to see that people are better off in Scotland (Wales, Ireland too). That way, the success of devolution is secure. Devolution is sacred and must not fail.
You and I have no say in it. I've just remembered that I come from Wales ... and I don't like devolution - it's an ugly word.
