what's with the belly button?

Why do so many AB'ers want their belly button pierced? Am i missing out on something, wasn't that like a craze about 4-5 years ago? It's painful, it leaves a scar, it only looks good in the summer and looks a bit silly when you get older.

I wouldn't say piercing is a craze!  People have all sorts of reasons for getting piercings & tattoos.  In asnwer to your questions

1. Its not that painful if done properly but to be honest I quite enjoy the pain aspect anyway.  Besides, it actually hurt more when I got my ears done than my belly button.  And talking of pain - don't you own any high heels girl?!
2. The scar is so tiny that if anyone is close enough to spot mine I won't be complaining!
3. Mine certainly looks great all year round (you just don't see that many in the winter).
4. I'll probably take it out when I get older in the same way I won't wear half the stuff I do now when I get older.

Apart from the ear lobes, I do not like any other form of body piercing & I don't think I am alone in thinking that.

Im with you here smudge, my daughter has her eyebrow,belly button and lower lip pierced.She also a a nose stud but got bored with that. Her blokes just had his tongue pierced and a small bar put through his upper chest. WHY???

Yes why FINA? You see some really pretty girls & handsome lads out there, who are intent on looking like like giant pin cushions! I just don't see what is so attractive about it.

I had my navel done about 12 years ago when the craze was just starting, but it healed out really quickly. I do have a scar but it's hardly noticeable at all. I now have piercings in both ears, two in my nostril and my tongue. I don't know why - it just looks good! There are other reasons for having a pierced tongue which i won't go into - Fina I'm sure you don't want to think about your daughter doing that sort of thing, but I bet she's glad her bf has it done!

I agree Smudge, ear lobes are the only thing for me, and only pierced once as well, not having 5 hoops in one ear - it just look common and tacky.

I have no piercings whatsoever!  Not even my ear lobes.  Cowardice has something to do with it, but I have never wished to have any piercings.  My husband hates them totally and completely anywhere and on anyone, so perhaps we are a match made in heaven.

 

As I have said on a previous thread though, I would never pass any judgement on others with piercings - each to his own.  However, I absolutely disagree with children having them, especially babies who have no choice whatsoever in the matter.  I hate to see them on kids.

I know what you mean Fakeplastic, i can't help but feel sorry for children with piercings. There is an age on piercings so that people are old enough and wise enough to make a decision whether or not to have it done. Parents shouldn't get their children pierced (if you know what i mean!)

By the way I'm not saying i'm against piercings, i just don't understand all the 14 year old AB'ers asking about them all the time.
