film titled 'split second'
The main action was set in a cinema which is showing a spaghetti western. At a certain point in the early part of the film a screen character fires 'out' into the auditorium (ie towards the audience point of view) and an audience member is killed, shot dead. The police are called, the situation recreated as part of the investigation, and at the same point in the film within the film same thing happens again, an audience member is shot dead..
I rmeember a lot about this film except the resolution. Or what its original title was, or who was in it, or who directed it....
As far as I know this was shown only once, and by elimination I have worked out it had to be the BBC (almost certainly BBC 1 ) between Easter 1969 and August 1971.
Any help or hints appreciated - I've been trying to track this film down for years.

You can search their database, but I couldn't find anything with that title that matched your discription.
If you have the chance to look through old Radio Times and find who directed it, you may find out if it had a different title. If you live in London there is the British Library or the British Film Institute, both have bound editions of old Radio Times.
All I need now is to work out how the hell I have believed for decades (though clearly not as many decades as I thought) that I had seen it around 1970 instead of perhaps 1980, and why I - and also apparently others - believed it was called SPLIT SECOND, and life is complete.
