Philips SPD2413P operates very slow

i have just bought the Philips SPD2413P dvd burner and it is taking forever to burn a dvd.. it will take about 1 and a half hours to burn where as my old one took 15 min.. it also seems to pulsate even if i am just reading off of a disk.. and it slows my computer down immensly and makes my computer pulseate, and act really slow.. how can i fix this. i also have the mostt recent drivers for the dvd burner

also ... did you peg it up as either master (end of cable) or slave (mid)?
ide devices (unlike eide) doesn't like c/sel
so even if it's the only drive it should be pegged as master and at the end of the cable
if it's a sata .... all devices are master
I'm also with ethel in suspecting the DVDs
if poss try a different brand (if you can scrounge one up)
occasionally you get a bad batch ...
finally have you changed or updated your software?
I generally uninstall the burning software before changing a drive (if you can...get the latest version
then re-install to your nice new kit
