In "modern" times - Portuguese on the West Coast (followed by the Spaniards and the British) and Ottoman empire on the East, but long prior to both of them Rome used slaves from all over its Empire which included North Africa.

It should be said that unscrupulous African 'entrepeneurs' rounded their countrymen up to sell on to the Europeans!

Not that is any excuse for the unspeakable, barbarous inhumanity of that whole ghastly episode of European history of course.
