You don't need talc, you just need to dry properly. What you like about it is probably the smell, but the scents in baby products aren't that good for you or them either.
Having said all that, generations of babies have grown up smothered in talc and I am sure it is the rare few that are affected, but why take the risk.
There may have been studies linking it to asthsma as well, but I am not sure.

hi red - that is what I was trying to say, but not very well! It may only affect those that are already suseptable to it, but how do you know? - I didn't know that you could get liquid talc, but we didn't use talc at all on our kids as my husband has strange allergies and doesn't tolerate anything perfumed (amongst other things) and my kids never had any skin problems - apart from acid poo when teething, but that is a whole other story!
i used Avents 'magic talc' which seems to have been renamed http://www2.aventbabyshop.com/shop/product_inf o.php?products_id=905
You can get it in boots quite easily amongst the baby lotions and stuff. Its not cheap though.

Helo,
it's only certain talcs that you should be wary of. Brands that have the europe safety mark on them are ok to use, such as avent, boots, tesco own brand and so on. But if you buy cheap talc they are often made of grinded animal bones and they are the ones that you should NOT use on you're children!!
I will look up where I read this and post it if i find out.

Hi gem, i wrote about this in your previous thread about nappy rash.
all my previous family and especially my parents generations all used talc on us when we were young but have no health problems, as i stated in my previous post i just reckon its another overhyped overprotective statement that people take too seriously. BUT i suppose its better to be safe than sorry when a baby's involved,
I used talc when mia had a bad nappy rash and it cleared it up within hours, whereas using nappy cream kept it moist and it wasnt clearing up.

I never used talc on my children, I was worried about a horror story I read in the paper just before my eldest son was born about a mother putting talc on her baby, the lid fell off and the whole container of talc fell onto the baby, a lot of it on the babys face. The talc got into the babys lungs and the poor thing died.
