My tree house!

Now this may seem like a silly question to some but i am deadly serious. ;-)

I want to live in a tree house, not just a bog standard, run of the mill tree house but a nice, comfy, no expense spared tree house.
What i want to know is, firstly, can my tree house be made out of bricks (i have a friend who says absolutely not but i think he's just jealous that it wasnt his idea)

secondly, if i can (which im sure i can) build it from bricks, roughly how many bricks will i need to order from B & Q? It has to be a decent size, so no skimping.


Have you ever made a tree house or more impressively, lived in one? Or, would you like to live in one? Would you come and visit me in mine if i made you a cup of tea and dished out cream cakes and chocolate?

OMG Doc! Thats the ine! Its perfect but it does really need to be brick, remember the 3 piggies!

well i wouldnt want you all showing up at once bigmamma so it neednt be huge , just a big fridge for the endless supply of fresh cream cakes really!
i like that kitchen though, i will mark that down as a "maybe"

As kids we built 2 tree houses connected by a ropeway in trees 10 feet apart. One was of 5 beams of 4x2, fully covered and electrically lit, about 20ft above the ground and accessible only by a rope ladder. Luckily there were no accidents.

If it was too high up jules and had a ladder I would have to be lowered in from a helicopter as I would never be able to visit otherwise ....lol

Would you like a single or a double storey tree-house ?
I suggest triple-glazing as it will reduce the noise of those pesky squirrels tapping on the windows............
Unfortunately, it'll have to conform to part M of the Building Regs. (Disabled) and have level access from the ground......

No, I've never lived in a tree-house, more's the pity.
I think that with global warming having the effects that it does.........living in trees will be the way of the future.
I will certainly come and visit you................and I will even BRING cream cakes !

hi Jules. i think you will need planning permision to build with bricks. there are other alternatives to brick though. have you ever thought of building out of used car tyres ?
im sure they would give you MILES more options for your build...
if you do decide to go down the path of using brick, dont forget to damp proof.
what type of tree were you thinking of building in ?

before i begin, i shall groan for the miles joke!

Thing is with tyres, when im cooking, what if the rubber starts to melt? Did ya think of that? i mean, really think of that? its a heck of a stink it makes ya know. Im often burning things too so with all that heat, rubber might not be the best idea although i'm sure health and safety would advise me sufficiently on the pros and cons of your idea..

the tree id not really thought about, has to be a big one, lots of leaves cause i like privacy ;-) maybe with a few bushes scattered around too. What would you recommend? Any thoughts on trees??

Jules, rubber doesnt melt !
as for the type of tree, id like to reccomend the good old English Oak !
sturdy and long living. lots of leaves and branches to hide your modesty AND it wont start a rockin when your mans got his..............................
