What lovely Sunday night family television!
Nit-picking I know, But how do they light the gas brackets in the post office given that there could never have been gas laid on to a place like that at the time !!
(I enjoy period drama so much that even the tiniest attention to period detail adds greatly to my pleasure)

I thought LR2C was set in the 1890's or thereabouts.

By 1823 numerous towns and cities throughout Britain were lit by gas. Gaslight cost up to 75% less than oil lamps or candles, which helped to accelerate its development and deployment. By 1859, gas lighting was to be found all over Britain and and about a thousand gas works had sprung up to meet the demand for the new fuel. The brighter lighting which gas provided allowed people to read more easily and for longer. This helped to stimulate literacy and learning, speeding up the second Industrial Revolution.

Gasworks were always in towns and cities. Even today mains gas is laid on to highly populated areas, whereby rural and country areas rely on propane.
There would definately not have been mains gas or bottled propane an a place like LRTC at that time.

It is a bit too loverly, fluffy and feel-good.

What gets me is the cast iron gutters and drainpipes. - seems a bit unlikely.

What annoys me is the way all the actors have Hollywood teeth and plucked eyebrows.

What would history be if we didn't want to change it?
