Why does my hamster smell?

My hamster smells REALLY badly of urine! I clean her cage out every other day, and her bedding is really wet, and when I get her out for her daily run she reeks!! She drinks lots of water every day, and eats a healthy amount! How can I stop her smelling?

try wood based kitty litter under the hay and straw/saw dust ontop of that.

Also wash your hamster!

Is your hamster a long haired variety? If so, sometimes the moist sawdust can get caught in their fur...if this is the case get a small soft bristled toothbrush (preferably not one you use!) and gently brush the hind regions of your hamster...hey presto a much sweeter smelling rodent!

what ever you do dont wash your hamster they are terrified of water and because they live in the desert they can easily catch a cold and die from it
