Murderer of model gets life
The man who was found guilty of murdereing model Sally Anne Bowman has been given life with a minimum of 34 years. I think the sentence is a good thing but I can see an appeal coming soon.

Hopefully more judges will start passing these sort of sentences!

If you take a life then your own life should be forfeit, but as no system can be foolproof then the rest of your life should be behind bars. I mean that literally....no contact of any kind with any other prisoner, no nothing...well maybe a bit of bread and water every now and again.
Jack Straw has completely lost his marbles in advising less custodial sentences for violent crimes....supposedly because the prisons are overcrowded. Again IMHO new prisons do not need to be built, just refit the present ones to provide more cells in the association areas, tv areas, pool table areas etc. Prison should be a place that no-one wants to return to, ever!

Of all the arguments both for and against the death penalty, for me the most appealing one against it is that once executed, the criminal's ordeal is over. Call me vindictive, but I quite like the idea of a lowlife scumbag like this facing year after year after year in jail, always looking over his shoulder for fear of attack.
I'm not naive or gullible enough to believe the right-wing press claptrap about all our prisons being holiday camps. Prison for someone who commits a crime as brutal and well-publicised as this will be a waking nightmare. Long may it continue to be so.
