u need to give what type of usb and what operating system u are on as usb doesnt work on windows 95 and below, u really do need a lot of details about your system and the actual device u are attaching it to

USB does work on windows 95 as long as you have the version that provides usb support.

In response to the above answer, usb may work on some versions of Windows 95, but you will struggle to get W95 drivers for usb devices.
