I'm interested in what most people would do when they have accidentally dialled a wrong number. I personally would say to the person answering "I'm sorry I appear to have dialled the wrong number". I keep getting people ringing my home phone who are trying to contact a business that used to have our number before we were given it.Whenever I tell them this they hang up with no apology or anything. I also have someone with a witheld number who keeps ringing my mobile at all hours of the day and night, the person has only spoken once and from that it sounded like a drunk male...now he just phones and hangs up if I answer(ignorant tw@t).Whatever happened to manners?
Wrong numbers, made or received, are the ideal opportunity to start up an impromptu conversation which under perfect circumstances could lead to romance and frenetic coupling.
If you like the person's voice, say "Sorry wrong number, but worth it because you have a gorgeous voice" or you could offer them tea and cakes, goes down a bomb on here after all.
I used to deliberatley ring any old number but in canada or america & france & have a conversation ( company phone - i know bad bad bad) but thats how I learnt what a Cochon is ;-)
We have a friend called Ray.
One day, our eldest boy said Ray had phoned and wanted to meet us for a meal and he'd booked the table at a local restaurant.
Me & Mr O turned up as arranged. The problem was, the man called Ray was a complete stranger and had dialled the wrong number!!!!
When I spoke to Junior Overall about it, he claimed not to have noticed that our friend Ray had mysteriously lost his American accent and gained a broad Yorkshire one.
We are now quite good friends with the new Ray and his wife!
I always apologise if i call a wrong number. I agree there is nothing worse when they just grunt at you and slam the phone down. There really is no need.
