booking of hotel room query

How long are guests allowed to stay with you in your hotel room? I mean, if I wanted to book a single room and fit in 1 or 2 people extra whats stopping me from doing so?

Fire regulations...in the event of a fire a roll call would be done and your one or two friends wouldn't be on it so if trapped in the room they wouldn't be searched for immediately.

depends on how "dilligent" the staff/security is and of course if caught you will have to pay top rate for all being squashed up in one room when you could have had two rooms. Are you all going to squash in one double bed ? excuse this question but ----- I notice most of your postings are about finding the cheapest out for almost everything, are you permanently on a low budget are or you one of these guys who gets a kick out of doing things cheaper than the next guy ?[ my dad was like that] just curious dont mean to offend.

Im always trying to save money, yes. I like value for money. I've not snuck any friends into hotel room yet though.
I dont earn much but still want to be able to go to restaurants and on holidays on a budget, but without sacrificing quality as often as possible, so thoroughly check hotel reviews on tripadvisor before comitting to any place.
It seems to work for me. I feel guilty about spending money, but my dad was always tight fisted so I must take after him.

I used to work in a hotel here in the UK. The housekeepers were issued lists for cleaning rooms and they would have on it the number of people in each room and they would highlight to the duty manager any discrepancies. If ourselves on reception or the hall porters noticed anyone we did not recognise (you do get to know faces) then we would challenge them to find out what room they were in etc. I have to admit though I was in Lanzarote a couple of years back. There were 4 of us and rather than book 2 studio apartments we booked 2 one bedroom apartments for 2 guests each. At the last minute another friend split up with her boyfriend and wanted to come. She just booked a flight as we knew we would have a sofa bed thing. It was self catering and we never needed to go near a reception or anything so all worked out great.

Yes but cant you invite guests to see you in your room? I thought this was allowed so if anyone questioned you at reception you would give the your friend's room number where you are going.

Most hotels have a rule that all guests (of guests) must be registered if they are in the room after 10pm (sometimes midnight). By staying at the hotel, you agree to the rules be default. Failure to register guests may result in additional charges (if caught). Registering guests will result in additional charges. I have no idea if unregistered guests are charged more than registered, logically they should be as there would be no incentive to register otherwise.

In emergencies, I have kipped on floors in hotels without a problem, but only for a night

many thanks for your honest reply, I do understand your sentiments, my dad used to say "champagne tastes and beer money" but why not ? and at least you do your homework first, let us all know if you managed to get the extra guests in. you could always say they had too much to drink and you didnt think they would be allowed to book in drunk so you let them stay.

Hi thanks Dee Sa. I dont actually have any immediate plans to bung in guests into hotel room, but have thought about this often enough to warrant asking the kind people on AB. I definetly think that I could get away with it. For example, last time I stayed in an hotel with a friend, he arrived a couple of hours before I did and checked into the room. When I entered the hotel I just walked past the lobby and went straight to the room, no questions asked.
