I found my ferret yesterday, and he was dead. I had let him out of the cage last night to get some exercise, when I went to put him back in the next day, he was dead. The circumstances are not good though, he was on my stairs hanging from step to step, his finger nail got caught in a broken piece of an old laundry hamper that was just thrown down the stairs. He had gone past it before and was fine, the day before, he was really skinny, I couldn't get him to gain weight, that is why i left him out, but my question is did he have a heart attack from not being able to get loose. I feel like it is my fault because I did not check on him when I got home instead of before I went to bed.

Sorry to hear about your ferret. When a pet dies unexpectedly it is very easy to blame yourself and say "What if...?". I think we all do that and we all feel guilty about it. He may have had a heart attack but it could have been anything. Try to think of the good times and all the happy memories. Take care
