any suggestions for best deal on home and contents insurance, but with no huge excesses.

I would recommend going in or calling a local broker as they will search all of the companies available to them.

Excess should be no more than �60 maximum, with either �500 but usually �1,000 for subsidence excess.

Also I feel that you get better service from a broker as mostly they have fewer staff than a large call centre so they get to know you personally and you dont have to explain yourself over and over to different people, as you can normally speak to the same person every time.

Generally you can get a comprehensive insurance policy starting around �120 for 12 months with a reputable insurer, depending on your circumstances

If you wanna get house contents AND buildings insurance its best to get the same provider as you only have to pay one excess amount, say if you flood your kitchen and need floor replacing AND cupboards replacing....
