I understand that neem oil is supposed to be a natural insect repellent. Look it up to find the products. I'm sure you can get an organic version.
Don't think it's organic, but many people swear by Avon's Skin So Soft bath oil.
You're right Bathsheba, glad you reminded me about that. I took some to Scotland for the midges but didn't come across any to test it out!

Thanks guys you were quick off the mark, I had hardly finished typing. I'll pass those tip on to her.
Anything with a citrus scent will reply the blighters (hence citronella candles). Diluted lemon or bergamot oil is a good start. It's also why the Avon Skin So Soft works - the army uses it, which is a pretty good endorsement. When I go on holiday I take an oil burner and some lemon oil to scent the room for 10 minutes before going to bed and daub some round the window - haven't been bitten once since doing this. Much better than those plug-in insecticides... and more environmentally friendly.
I think eating Marmite is supposed to help. Not sure how much research has gone into that though.
Garlic capsules. Mossies hate the smell of garlic.

Thanks for your responses everyone
She should not wear any perfume or perrfumed lotions etc...they mozzies are attracted by the smell.
Marmite and the B vitamins (take tablets) are supposed to be a good deterrent.
I'm one of the people who swear by Avons Skin So Soft range. I use the shower gel and dry oil body spray in the green fragrance (can't remember what it's called). In the two years I've been using this my mozzie bites have gone from 30 at once to about 3 all summer. I do use it from April through to October.
