Marie Curie's daffodil???

Why is the amblem for Marie Curie a daffodil? I have googled and can only find references to the apeal not the reason behind the emblem???

I was told years ago the reason for a daffodil is because it is a spring flower that most people would know. Spring to signify new life which is what cancer patients would have with a cure for the disease. Don't know if that is the official reason, but thought it was a nice thought anyway.
