So it's another 4 years, can anyone put a silver lining on this cloud and point out any redeeming features of "Dubya"

QM "I certainly believed in them in late 2002...didn't you?"

Nope, I'm afraid I never did, and I think you'll probably recall I've stuck to that position any time it's come up on the AB from the very start. Colin Powell's presentation to the UN was totally lacking in credibility and I remember thinking at the time that he wasn't fooling anyone.

I'm not boasting about that, particularly however; it just makes me feel more cheated. As for whether that makes Putin and Chriac equally dumb, so be it.

The November 02 UN resolution led the way for the return of weapons inspectors threatening Iraq with serious consequences if they failed to comply with the inspections, at the beginning of  March 03 Hans Blix reported an "acceleration" of co-operation from Iraq, but that more time was needed, despite this by mid March the US and the UK acting without the backing of the UN and INVADED Iraq.

In August 1990 the UNSC condemned the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait which ultimately led to the first Gulf war. In this instance the US were perfectly happen to comply with the UN and launch operation Desert Storm.
While the UN maybe "useless" you can't have it both ways... back the UN when it suits you but ignore it when it doesn't.

As for the two dossiers released by the UK government, whether they were "sexed" up or not they are an embarrassment of inaccuracies and plagiarism that the UK intelligence services should be ashamed of.
Did I believe Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? I thought it was possible, but also thought that the weapons inspectors should have been allowed to finish their work. If Iraq had failed to co-operate then it was up to the UN to act.

Of course with hindsight it's easy to say these things, but if YOUR actions are going to lead to the deaths of thousands of civilians and your own troops wouldn't YOU make sure the evidence justifying your actions was sound first?

Hmmmm. QM, I for one did not believe there were WMD's in IRAQ. The weapons inspectors did not find any WMD and asked for more time - while Iraq was contained - to complete their job. Iraq was never a threat to western security whatever the propagana of vested interest would have you believe and president Bush knowingly mislead people in his own country by linking Saddam with the 9/11 attacks. If all parties really believed that there were WMD's in Iraq and Saddam was about to use them there would have been no need for unilateral action on the part of the US. The actions of countries such as Germany and France have proved to be right, they did not need 20-20 hindsight to see the war was unjustified on those grounds.

I'm not sure how intelligent Bush is - although your socialism could guide you as to the increased opportunities for the elite in society - but i do worry about his views on issues such as stem cell research and abortion. How can he attack iraq and kill thousands of people so say for a just cause when he wont allow scientists to experiment on a stem cell. I also worry about his handling of the economy, where his record is very poor indeed.

From my reserch, most of the terrorists involved with 911 were Saudi Arabian. So why is Bush attacking Ira? he can't say he is not interested in oil as one of his favourate hobbies is the oil business?. He might get rid of all these war mongers, but until the whole world realises that unless we learn to become more caring and thoughtful about our fellow peoples from other less fortunate counties, born there through no fault of their own I might add, and also think about the environmental affects our rapidly expanding populations is doing to our planet I.e The world is moving too fast, most people do not have the time to care about anyone else but their self or country. This is bad and anyone with a proper concience would know this, Capitalism is bad (expanision, growth and greed) etc.. You need to do things at a sustainable level or things get strained, damaged and eventually extinct! War will only make the situation far worse and will fuel more rage and anger among people, the "terrorists" will just keep on coming. The world has gone bonkers!, nobody should have the right to own the planet, we are all equal and should be privelidged we are here on this potentialy wonderful world and work together with each other to make it a better place for everyone or thing that lives here. These are some of the reasons that I think makes people resent other nations and certain individuals.
Speaking of WMB, Simon Hoggart informed his readers in The Guardian the other day that the reg for Greg Dyke's new car is M16 WMD.

Once the US of A has obliterated the rest of the planet in its search for oil, and DUBYA is sitting with the Atlantic on one side and the Pacific on the other.......and nothing else anywhere.......who will he start the next war with?

Is American intelligence not a contradiction in terms?

I don't like Bush, I prefer it to be trimmed neat and tidy
sorry ansteyg but seeing through an idiot who talks for an out of touch church and any business willing to pay enough does not make you a tree huging liberal, just some one who thinks for themselves and has a level of common sense. As for liberation of Iraq and Afganistan well i'd call it more of a soup, bet the liberated Iraq's love the current state of affairs! So then what else has Bus doen for modern democratic society? Think hard. Well fuels still cheap, and you can still shot your guns, and well Kyotos rubbish, OK, suggest another idea then. And Sudan how's that doing, Burma? Zimbabwai, Yemen, Iran, N.Korea, Middle East doing really well there...........................gosh he's great aint he!

To bush or not to bush? I once shaved a Japanese lady; when I commented on her beaver;  however I digress...Fact is americans can't count, or spell. Before you REPORT REPORT to web administrator, lets study that facts. COLOUR. FLORIDA. I rest.

Now bush has "control" once more, the people of america have proved one thing only, they will eat anything. Only this time the food was served up by the Republican controlled american media.

For those of you who care, please note the use of lower case for bush and america in this posting.

Quizzy - watch Michael Moore's film Fahrenheit 9/11 and see if you still think the invasion of Iraq was acceptable, especially if you are a socialist. But anyway, to answer the original question, the only silver lining that might come from another Bush term is that hopefully American people might come to see what a back-stabbing warmonger he is.
We're not in the middle of a pretzel shortage.
He has not got a son.
