I started in my present job 23 years ago. After about two weeks, I realised that nobody else gave a damn so I thought why should I.
Only do enough and no more. no one will thank you for it if you do more.

lucy - it was totally not about brownie points - i'm not like that at all. i just had work to do thats all. plus the boss freaked last week when we all went for a quick drink and said we couldnt leave the office unmanned! so i guess they must have volunteered me to stay behind and not tell me - rude!
thing is, the people who went out lost one of their crew and phoned me in the office and asked ME to call this person to make sure they got to the pub ok!? I'm not a blooming PA!!!!

You're not a fool. You are loyal to your job and feel responsible and dedicated to it. Those are character traits of a good employee.
Lucy does have a point though. Employers don't care about their employees. Their concerns are making profit and progress.
