Can anyone please give me a recipe for pepper sauce to go with steak? I tried one from my recipe book, but it wasn't very nice, not like the ones you get in restaurants.
A while ago we were at a friends for dinner, her pepper sauce was delicious much nicer than mine imagine my surprise when she told me she gets it from the supermarket in a packet, she mixes it with water and a knob of butter and into the microwave for a few mins!
It was delicious! think she said it was made by colmans?
...coat your steaks with peppercorns to your taste, fry in a pan with a little butter, remove the steaks to rest on a warm plate, deglaze your pan with a splash of brandy then ignite it, quickly stir in some double cream stir quickly to avoid curdling until thick, serve immedietly....
Ermintrude: that sounds perfect, so I'm going to have a go at the home-made version, then if it doesn't turn out too well, I'll try the Coleman's one next time, so thanks rosi as well.
Dont get the saisbury's one - it is not very nice - I usually love all Sainsbury food, but I had the pepper sauce from the chill cabinet a couple of weeks ago and it really put me off!
...this is how I was tought to make classic steak au pouive when I first started chefing ....many many many moons ago....let us know how you got on gallapunk....
Thank you all so much, very informative. Ermintrude, the sauce was lovely, thank you, and so easy to remember. I did cheat and buy a packet mix as well, just in case, but I didn't need it.
