caught without TV licence what happens next

i had a small black & white tv and licence for b/w tv
next i got color tv and the officer came and found i had wrong licence i told him i was going to get 1 for the color so he made me pay on spot for color and then left

the chaps and chappesses from the tv licensing authority have no right of access to your home....so why did you let him in?

Erm...something doesn't sound right here. A legit inspector called round at someone I know's house, and they hadn't got the appropriate licence. They were told to get one within so many days, and duly turned up again to check it.
I also hope you got a receipt for the money you handed over, and that you've checked that this is a legal procedure.
