Can anyone tell me if there are any second hand bookshops in Guernsey? The reason I ask is that I am trying to track down a copy of a book published in 1957 which I have tried all other avenues with no sucess

As Wolf63 states, the best place to find secondhand books is Abebooks.

Also check out Biblion:

The Bookshop, in St Sampsons, Guernsey deals mainly in new books but also offers a book finding service, so they might be able to help you:

Thank you for all your suggestions I have in fact tried all these avenues with no success .I will just have to keep trying and see if I spot it somewhere .I do know there is a copy in the British Library!
Thanks again
I 'work' in an Oxfam book and music shop. We sell books via Abe books, in our shops and also at http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/Browse.aspx?catal og=HighStDonated&category=Books

The book I am looking for is "The Small Army" by Micheal Marshall published by Constable in 1957.
Its about a group of boys from Guernsey who were evacutated to Derbyshire. I have been in contact with the author and he tells me there were only 5000 printed. A relative of mine is mentioned in it and I would love to obtain a copy for my family records

Thanks - I wasn't expecting it to be quite so expensive!! Especially as a friend of the author was going to let me have a copy for nothing but has mislaid his copy!!
Many thanks again I will have to keep hunting till I find a cheaper copy.
If you just want to read it you will be able to borrow a copy from your local library.

Guille-Alles Library at http://www.library.gg/ have some copies to borrow. I hope that this is the correct library for you to use.
We tracked down a much sought after book at a place in Northumberland called Barter Books. Not certain, but website might be www.barterbooks.co.uk. It has a very large selection and if ever you are near Alnwick, it is well worth a visit. Good luck.
