alba dvd50 player and region 2 problem

hi, ive been given an alba dvd50 dvd player, it clearly has a region 2 sticker on the back, but wont play a region 2 dvd, when i put in a region 2 disc, it says "wrong regional disc". does anyone know why this would be, and how i would get it to play as region 2 disc (it does seem to play my region 0 disc that i have, but not one region 2 disc)

It's probably been hacked. See the post from Tafsir on this page, but note that there is no confirmation that suggested hack actually works!
