and its really getting to me. I know its normal and I know he has to go but honest to God I'm so scared/upset/God knows what.
We are so close, I had him when I was 18 and its always been just me and him (against the world lol).
We live in a very small village and his primary school is at the end of our street, there are about 40 odd kids there and know the teachers and they know us.
I dont know if its fear of him going to a bigger school (on a bus eek), fear of him growing up and away from me or what.
Please people, if you have been through this help me to deal with it.

hi i havnt been through this yet but i remember my mom being exactly the same. she wanted to drive me to school and pick me up. although the lift was better than the bus it was so un cool. you are not alone but he will be fine. my moms problem was the fear of me not needing her no more and that scared her. if you have a good relationship with him then im sure he will let you know if he is having any problems
Hi Mycats! Did you post this before or am I having a weird case of deja vu??

Anyway...I guess (since I'm not a parent) that it is very normal to dread your kids going off to the big wide world and getting away from you! It is only part of growing up though, and your wee boy will still need you and be close to you. It must be a scary time for him too, so he'll need you even more than ever! lol Soon he'll be telling you all about girls, bless!
my daughter is off to high school this year from a small primary school 100 kids to a 1000 girls school, she gets very nervous about the whole idea, but her big sister did it 2 years ago and was fine.

it is a big shock from big fish in small pond to very small fish in huge pond.
she will have taxi transport to the village 3 miles, then the bus to school 12 miles away ( we are very isolated) and I'm better now than I was last tome.
I gave my daughter a mobile so she could keep in touch and if the bus was late she could ring me and has done, but she had freinds on the bus and was fine, I'm afraid its a case of they are growing up and we have to get on with it.

enjoy the time left becasue i found my daughter grew up very fast and i have a nearly teenager excited to show her sister around her school.

does your son know an older child who can take care of him on the bus for a while - the school usually has a buddy system for yr 7 children

I've written an essay but it will be fine.

Thank you foks. I know I have to just get on with it lol but he is my baby :-(
my biggest fear is just as meltoadhall said - once they go to big school they grow up and away from you soooo quickly.
Mycats, I have just read your post and you almost made me cry! 3 years ago I was where you are now. My son went to the local primary (80 pupils) I left him to the gate every morning, and picked him up in the same spot in the afternoon. I too faced the prospect of putting him on a bus to travel the 5 long miles to the 'BIG' school (800 pupils) and I swear - the summer before he transferred, I hadn't one full night's sleep! I felt like I was handing him over to murdering paedophiles as he had never really been out of my sight before. But when it finally came, he proved to be so mature, within a week he knew the whole routine, bus pick-up times etc and God bless the man who invented the mobile phone - any time he missed the bus, he would call to say he'd be on the next one. Now 3 years down the line and with another son away with him I can PROMISE you, your son will survive, but you must try not to show your anxiety to him. Treat it like a big adventure, tell him you'll have his favourite treat ready for him when he gets home. He will meet so many new friends and in my experience, the teachers at the secondary school are only too aware of parents worries so don't be afraid to talk to them if you have any concerns. Good luckxx
