Bedfordshire

Hi all, I'll be moving to Bedfordshire for work within the next 6-12 months, but I'd like to live in a really nice part! Are there any places that you can recommend? Or any places you DON'T recommend?!

Thanks DSG, I should have been more specific - Bedfordshire's a big place! I'll be working in Bedford itself, but I'm happy to move anywhere at all within Bedfordshire. I should also say that I'm not worried about access to big towns - the remoter, the better, as far as I'm concerned!

You may prefer to not actually live in Bedford! There are some nice villages around it tho.

I used to work in Flitwick, it's nice. Ampthill is lovely.x

I lived in and around Chicksands for almost 6 years.

Personally I quite liked Biggleswade and Upper and Lower Caldecot.

Whatever you do AVOID Luton like the plague.

Agreed. Luton is one of the worst places in UK.

I agree with the other posters. Flitwick & Amptill are both lovely places to live, as is Woburn. There are a number of delightful villages lying south-east of Bedford itself. Avoid Luton unless you want to catch a plane!

Sorry, I forgot to mention the delightful village of Harrold. Not too far from the A1 & easy access to Bedford.

Wow, wasn't expecting so many answers, thanks all!
Funnily enough, Ampthill is one of the areas I'm really interested in, as is Flitwick - and I have to admit, I was a bit worried about Luton, as they seem to have the lowest prices (if it seems too good to be true...!). I hadn't looked at Harrold, Chicksand and the Caldecots, I'll search there too.

I'm a bit nervous, but happy to be leaving the Big Smoke! Taking a big pay cut, but hopefully it'll be worth it - life's too short!

Don't know if it is still nice, but when I was a kid, Reynold was an idylic village (more remote than the previous mentioned) .

Wouldn't recommend Biggleswade or Kempston.

The other place to consider is Milton Keynes or Newport Pagnell (officially Buckinghamshire but close to Bedford)
