Why do people still buy Renault Clio`s when they still insist it`s the customers fault that the bonnet flies up and smashes the windscreen.....are they waiting to see how many people can get killed before they do a recall?

i had a 02 clio they done a recall . on them all
Renault will not recall the Clio II to rectify the issue because of the huge numbers of cars invloved - over half a million in the UK.

VOSA has concurred that the bonnet catch mechanism on the Clio II has no design or construction defect, therefore no recall on this issue exists.

On watchdog last evening they were still getting complaints and from people whom had had their vehicles checked and still the bonnets flew up. I personally own a Ford, but I feel for Clio owners and hope a Clio owner will let us know about their car.
Well I never knew that so I'm one person who would still have bought a Clio :-)

Maybe everyone else that buys them is also unaware of the problems.
A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.
renault DID recall the clio for the bonnet catch for inspection but not replacement as i dealt with hundreds of them through our fleet of NHS cars. all clios after a certain age were re[placed with metal bonnet ctaches as opposed to the plastic catches which were causing the prblems. c r a p cars anyway.
great cars the clio ..!
The main reason for the bonnet flying up was poor maintenance/ servicing, most drivers think cars will go for ever without it.

All clio bonnett catches are now checked if serviced by renault.

I will admit there must have been a fault though, because they changed the slide in the catch to steel, it used to be plastic and tended to sieze.
Renault invited Clio II owners into their nearest Renault dealership, where the opening and closing mechanism of the bonnet was checked.

That does not constitute a recall and Renault are the first to admit as much.

After watching Watchdog, I would never buy a Clio.

Even cars that have been checked by Renault dealers are still having bonnets fly open.
maybe its just a reno thing as my partner got a new megane and the drivers seat keeps coming away from the floor. Is this classed as dangerous to. According to reno its not its just a slight glitch. Maybe once yes but its come lose about 4 times in 18 months. I 8 reno myself but she wanted 1 so she had 1.
i dont know how any manufacturer could class this as being safe!! why was it made of plastic?? no doubt to save a few bob.
