Hey all,

My boyfriends sister was due today, we had a call at lunchtime to say that she is being taken in for a C section tomorrow, as the doctor says the baby is too big to be born naturally!!
The baby was 6.7lbs at 32 weeks, what kind of size baby do we think we are talking about here!?
If she is going in at 8am tomorrow, what kind of time do you think we will have a call to say baby has arrived? Or does it just depend on how busy they are and so on?

Also, when it comes to buying clothes and so on tomorrow, which I will be doing lots of before we go to the hospital, should we be looking to buy bigger then new born clothes?

Sorry, I've just never had any one close to me have a baby before!

Ta!

Get the 0-3 months size clothes as it sounds like the newborn might be too small.Maybe also get a few 3-6 months size babygros(just in case the baby is HUGE).It could well be 9lb plus.
As for what time they might phone to announce the arrival of the baby......it could be any time as there may be a few ladies booked in for c-sections.it all depends on how busy they are as you said.

Hey daffy, thanks for the quick reply.

The doctors today said the baby was 10lb atleast, which is why she was going in for the c section. By fella has since spoken to his sister who has said that even if she went into labour before tomorrow morning, she would be taken in for a C section.

We dont know if its a pink one or blue one yet, so will be off to buy some clothes once we have had the call and before we go to the hospital!
So excited though, and the bubby will be arriving the day before my 21st! :)
some say that baby puts on 0.5lb a week in last few weeks so this baby could be 11lbs.

There is no telling what time her c-sect may be as emergencies will be dealt with before elected c-sects but you may hear as early as 11am.

Dont buy any newborn clothes, get 0-3 month and leave tags and receipts so that they can be exchanged iof necessary.

I hope mum and baby are ok
When I went in for my elective section we were told to be there at 7.30 am - we also went in for a check up and to do some stuff (can't remember what!) the night before. We were first on the list for theatre and my son was born at 9.25am - back up in the ward and receiving visitors by 10am, so I guess as has been said, that it will depend on the size of the hospital - e.g. how many theatres are available, if they have any emergencies to deal with and where she is on the list. I would agree that if you want the baby to wear your outfit straight away, 0-3 would be about right - try to get separates in case they are long and the all- in- one is a bit restrictive. It might be nice to get a 3-6 outfit for the summer if you think she might get a lot of things.

Thanks :)

Baby best not arrive to early as Im booked in to get my hair cut and highlighted at 10am lol! (This was booked before we new she was to be going in for a C section!)

The mum is 6ft and was a 10lb baby herself, and dad is tall too! Would this play much of part on the size of the baby?

I'm more excited then my fella, but then I guess men dont show it as much as us ladies!
If they are both tall then I would guess that a lot of the weight will come from the length rather than podgieness!

I would definitely go for seperates - I am 5'10 and my husband is 6'2 - our first baby was 9lb 13 and was so long that we had to cut the feet of his babygros in the hospital as he could not fit in them!

My son's expected height is between 6'3 and 6'6 and his little brother is expected to be between 6'2 and 6'5.

If this little ones Mum is so tall, I would expect a beautiful but long baby and a tall child. Basketball player if a boy and a model if a girl (or the other way around!)

Hope it all goes well tomorrow - remember she will have a longer stay in hospital than she was expecting so something to keep mum occupied when she has no visitors and the wee one is sleeping woud be appreciated - a magazine or something and some spare edible food!
Any news yet wiggal? How much did the baby weigh?
This sounds like it may be one tall baby!
I'm 6ft & Mr O is 6ft 4". Our eldest boy is 6ft 5" and still growing, our 13 year old girl is 5ft 10" and our 7 year old boy is 5ft 4".
The youngest was born by elective c section at 35 weeks and weighed 8lb 6oz. I dread to think what he would have been if he'd been full term.
I'd go for the next size up in clothes.

Hey all!

Just back from the hospital visiting mum & baby, both are doing well!

Its a blue one, he arrived at 9.58am this morning, weighing in at an impressive 11lb 3!!
Hes so gorgeous! Although I was too scared to have a cuddle just yet!
They may have to stay in longer then expected as he passed meconium in the uterus, so while we were there they had to do some checks on him and mum had to have an injection.

WOW! 11lb 3oz! That is one big baby boy.lol. Congrats to everyone. Thanks for letting us know wiggal.
That's great wiggal - congrats to everyone - did it interupt your hairdo?

Lol annie, no it didnt, we didnt get the call till just after I had finished having my hair done. Visiting hours didnt start til this after noon so we went in around 4pm, and oh wow! He is so so gorgeous!
Cant wait to hear on the name they decide!
They just cant agree on anything lol!
we called my first son who was 9lb 13oz Craig because it means a crag or rock. The baby will need a good strong name to go with his size. Hope that you will come back and tell us what they decided on.
jeez 11lb!!!
wow, thats big!

Am hoping for a slightly smaller one with mine.

glad alls well
Our son was born at 41 weeks by section as he was too big to descend, but this was only found out after 12hrs of unsuccessful labour. He weighed 10lb 7oz & I'm 5' 8" so he was by no means huge for someone of my stature. The actual section took less than an hour once the theatre was ready, but this was an emergency, so would guess under "normal" circumstances & depending on how busy they are, the checks they do etc you should probably hear something by lunchtime.

I would suggest buying 1 outfit up to the 12lb range & then a range of bigger ones, say 3-6 & 6-12 as I found that the newborn size lasted about 3 weeks & we were inundated with that size. Mum to be is probably organised with baby grows etc, but get a bigger size of these in case the newborn ones she has got don't fit. My son lived in babygrows for the 1st month anyway & outfits were a waste of time as he was always being sick on them!

Best of luck to all! Oh & remember to ask for gift receipts in case things need to be changed!
Feel a bit daft now, hadn't realised the baby was born already as there were no answers showing on my screen which are now! Doh!
Congrats to all.
