Morning all, When I got up this morning I made a big decision, I have e-mailed the council who I work for as a sub contractor for the last 24 years and told them not to send me any more jobs after this month, I earn good money as a sparkie, but when I woke up I thought I don't like this anymore, so I am going to jack it in, what I will do I do not know, but it won't be electrics, I have always come to qucick decisions over work and the shortest time i spent in a job was half an hour, Am I mad or am I right to think like I do?

If you don't enjoy it, don't do it, simple!

Hello Ray

I had a good career (it looked like that to outsiders) with good prospects and salary etc. I woke up one morning and couldn't face the job/people anymore. I resigned a month later and have never regretted it. That was back in 1997 - since then I've retrained for two completely different jobs and am about to start working for myself.

I agree with what you said about work - if you don't enjoy it, don't do it. I was spending over 40 hours a week in misery and it was affecting what social time I did have left over.
Hi ray - The world is your oyster! I imagine you feel a great weight has been lifted from you. You say you wouldn't consider anything electrical? That's a massive skill you have as well as a caring nurturing side. What about teaching your skill to youngsters in a college/ school enviroment? Anyway ray, just want to wish you the best in whatever you decide to do. Oh by the way, me and the hubby did a great job with the wall light after your advice! He did the electrics and I was a very good plasterer! Take care xxx
Hello all

congrats Ray, i'm sure whatever you turn your hand to you'll do it well!

now you've put the idea in my head.....
Commendable Ray! What a great attitude! So long as you have enough money to get by on, then have a little rest and see what crops up. I'm sure with a lovely laid-back approach like that, you're going to be far happier than all those people who're stuck in jobs they hate, but don't have the push to get out of it. Best of luck - x

Stuart Pearce was a sparky, but made quite a good living as a professional footballer and now manager.
