Either through the programmes uninstall function if available,or via control panel.Type in remove programme in the search box if you have trouble getting there. Then you will be given a list of all installed programmes, click on the one to be removed and follow the sequence
As part of the ongoing policy of reducing support costs, MS decided to replace the File menu in Office 2007 with a big red button. This means that when advising users we now have to type:
Click File (unless you are using Office 2007, in which case click Big Red Button).

In a similarly inspired piece of stupidity they changed the name of Add and Remove Programs, so that now we need to advise users:
Click Start/Settings/Control Panel and run Add Remove Programs (unless you are running Vista, in which case, click Start/Settings/Control Panel and run Progarms and Features)

Thanks ianmunt went into Control Panel under Programmes and Features it listed all my programmes as you said.

The trouble is I cannot find the programme I want to un-install, but I have found it in Documents/Downloads.

Where do I go now please? I can right click and Delete but will this remove it completely?

Did you actually install it, or just download the installer?

If you didn't actually install it you can delete the downloaded installer and that's the end of it. But if you installed it, then no, what you propose won't remove it completely. Is it listed on your Start Menu?

Hi rojash I must have downloaded it because when I click on it in Downloads the programme comes up. It's called Switch.Zip-WinRAR (evaluation copy)

It is not listed in Start up Menu (this I got from typing msconfig in the search box)
Is it a functioning programme,ie can you produce or unzip zip or rar files with it? It sounds a bit as though you have downloaded but not actually installed
When I asked if it was in your start menu, I meant Start/Programs not if it was in your startup menu!
As ianmunt says, it sounds as if you have not actually installed it.

Yes it is in my start menu but under the name Win RAR and if I click on this it opens up with all my other downloads on.

there is no such prog ..... sounds like you have a copy of winrar ... which is what you should be looking for in the list

In the big red button ... just uninstall winrar as directed above.

however winrar is quite happy running as a standalone prog ... which sounds how you are doing the biz

(just to be safe look for C:\Program Files\WinRAR)
and in your downloads .... wherever it is
there is a file called uninstall.exe - just run that
