My 40 x 80 ft garden is bounded by a 6 x 6 ft lattice fence. With gales forecast, gusting up to 80 mph, can my fence withstand it? What is the highest windspeed that they could withstand? What can I do to stop them blowing away if they can't withstand those speeds - will some sort of tie-downs work?

Lattice should withstand more punishment than standard larch-lap panel due to less wind resistance. All depends on your location (ie top of hill, open area etc) and direction of wind at the time. No real hard and fast rules.

I'm about 25 miles from the South Coast and its fairly still at the moment. Calm before the storm maybe?
Yeah I was going to add the about it being lattice - a bit of buffetting yes, but the wind will go straight through. A few of my panels are dodgy anyway, so I reckon I'll be picking them up after being blown out.
How's the fence??!! Last time we had a day like this, about a year ago, there was a 'world shrortage' of fence panels, with China nicking all the timber apparently!! Supplies didnt get back to normal for about 4 months and when they did, the prices had gone up of course - I had to forward a BBC press release to disbelieving customers to quieten them down!!

Landscaper2 - So far so good! The wind has been horrendous and I've had loads of things blown over but luckily it hasn't destroyed the fence - yet. I think that it has started to blow out now though so it looks like lattice fence is the way to go!!!
