I have recently been sprouting hairs from my chin ( i am a 30 year old female)! Apart from being embarrassing, it's a bind having to pluck these thick little white numbers every few days, and it's also a worry because I don't know why I'm getting them! People have said it could be a hormone imbalance or related to polycystic ovaries! I do not have any symptoms of polycystic ovaries, have normal periods and am not pregnant. Why could this be happening and is there anything I can do?

Does any of the other women in your family have a problem with facial hair? If they do, ask them what age it started at but if you're really worried make an appointment with your GP
I've suffered from a similar problem since my teens due polycistic ovaries and a hormone imbalance (which are probably linked). I have no other symptoms, my periods are normal and I'm not pregnant. I'm not an expert but a simple blood test by your GP can usually confirm the diagnosis as far as I know. In the meantime try electrolosis as its better than plucking, it has a more permanat effect, and if you keep plucking those little white numbers they may start to darken. It's a bit expensive but some of the home treatment kits can be quite effective and are pretty cheap to buy.
I have PCOS too and have seen my chin hair increase over the years. I am overweight at the moment so the hair is worse. My doctors tell me being overweight increases Androgen levels (male hormones) and thats why the facial hair increases too.

If you are fair skinned, you could have laser hair removal, which after a few treatments, prevents regrowth for a number of years.
