i have an idea/invention i truly believe in...have done the drawings etc and can pay to get prototype made...im due to send drawings and details off to invent uk ltd....i do not have large amounts of money to patent this idea or protect it....does anyone know wot i should or could do...as i say ive dreamt of this for yrs and just dont have a great deal of money ...its a fantastic idea and i believe in my heart it will take off...after some of the thing s ive seen oon dragons and how they have made their ideas work for them i am very hopefull i mine will take off,i just know it...anyway any help would be much appreciated...thanks

without the patient you have no protection

if you spoke to the media and gave details ... you have no protection.

think of the dragons ... one of the first questions they ask is if you own the idea ....
they have also refused to get involved where ppl haven't had the sense or conviction to register and were daft enough to appear on tv

how much for a patent? anyone know?

The link is a site to answer lots of questions about your patent, ith regard to the cost of it, it says:

"There is no longer an initial fee for applying for a British patent. Generally, fees of �200 or more are incurred in obtaining the grant of a patent. In addition, the fees of a patent agent could be �1000 or more for a straightforward application. Such costs (which may be higher), plus the costs of translating the specification into the relevant language, will be incurred in every country in which you wish to obtain patent protection. Once the patent is granted renewal fees have to be paid to keep the patent (or patents) in force. The British Patent Office site will give advice and can send a free brochure."

Unfortunately a patent only provides protection if you have the funds to enforce it in court. Good ideas get stolen and the wealthy win.

Also it costs a lot to get any invention developed to a commercial mass produced product. You need to attract investors if you are going to make something of this idea.
