I have to discuss government intervention in the UK economy since 1973. I have to give some examples of relevant legislation. I can only find the 1973 Fair Trading Act. Does anyone happen to know any others?

I wondered if the introduction of VAT in 1973 would be example of government intervention? And also the privatisation of public utilities (gas, electricity etc) although I am not familiar with the legislation of this.

Please help! :(

would the more recent intervention such as the Northern Rock scandal be more relevant? Pay attention to what Alistair Darling announces in his new budget today to see if he is doing anything to affect the economy (I heard that he was delaying increasing tax on fuel duty to help stabilise the economy).
