Hi. I went to NYC 2 summers ago. first things first - nice choice!! I had the best holiday of my life there. It really is exactly what you imagine and want it to be. I got a flight from BA - it was a promotion for 199 return Manc-JFK. Good flight. I actually stayed in a youth hostel near Times Square. Really cheap and cheerful, but that's all I wanted from it. I wasn't planning on spending much time at my accomodation. It only cost about $20 per night. Hostel was called The Big Apple. The biggest expense you'll find is just day-to-day costs such as food, drink (very expensive!), touristy things. I can recommend however spending a day or two in Central Park. It's HUGE and obviously completely free. All you'd have to buy is food/drink. I spent hours watching people play baseball whilst eating hot dogs! Go on the free ferry which goes to Statten Island. Costs nothing, and you get brilliant views across Manhatten. In total for about 6 days in NYC - flight and accom incl - i think i spent about 600. I didnt care at the time because I was in NYC, and it's such an amazing experience! have a great time!!
