Like most dance music, 'House' is a generic term for a bass-beat-driven style of dance music popularised by DJ Frankie Knuckles and co., at the House nightclub in Chicago.
It has now splintered into a variety of sub-genres - Happy House, Deep House, Trance, and so on and so on.
Best bet is to hit your local library music section which will carry a number of complilation albums, some devoted to different House styles.
The first two links are two of my faves 3ight8ball. Not so keen on the 3rd and the last was ok but not my sort of thing, although in the right frame of mind I could dance to it(if ya get my drift.lol)
Ok i'm back. Its still not my sort of thing 3ight8ball but it is cleverly done. I'm definitely more of a Trance/Hardcore fan........and I like most of the Wigan Pier stuff,in fact I own every single album except volumes1,2 and 3 I think. I just got volume 60 this week. http://www.powerrecords.co.uk/shop/catalog/
I don't have any vinyl left unfortunately. Our house was burgled a few years ago, they took nothing but my collection of vinyl,I had some pretty rare reggae stuff from the 70's and 80's. I know who did it but had no proof. I've stuck to buying on CD since then as its easier to lock away.
