Just watching bbc2 all white in barking.
Ive watched it for half an hour now.
Are people really that rascist?
Watching it was like watching an old alf garnet programme.
Though i have to say the couple who went to visit the couple from nigeria for an evening.
They ate food that was strange to them , but enjoyed it and seem to have had a very nice evening.
Do you think if people tried a little their opinions would change?
Or are some people unable to integrate or even communicate with each other?

Dont think so leg but the influx of poles etc has maybe turned the tide its a bit compllicated.

isnt it a fact that even if they were white spoke english but just werent who you liked theyd be a problem ?

Hi leg, i don't think they are rascist at all, scared maybe but is not just the british is it, britain is an unbelievably multi-cultural society with surprisingly few problems, over 200 languages spoken within the M25. I think people are wary of different cultures, specially when they dress differently and eat different food etc, and don't forget the way britain has changed over the last few years older people wonder what the hell is going on. eventually the whole world will be multi cultural, but it takes time, a white man might not want his daughter to marry a black woman but then most black fathers will not want to see there son marry a white woman, fear of the unknown more than rascism, methinks !!

Well I stretched out on the sofa with a kit kat and a drink to watch it and thought some of it funny and tame. I think tastymorsel has it about right.

Re immigrants: the local paper here tonight says that a lot of our 'local' Polish are going back. The standard of housing and cost of living, combined with an economic boom back home, have made them decide to go back. There is a lot of regeneration and building going on here at the moment and there is a worry that with a lack of skilled men, such as brickies and plasterers, projects will overun.
