I have been plundering the former occupants post, I have already sent loads of it back to sender and told the companies with still no joy, can I still enjoy giggling at the baliff letters without it being illegal?

No, it's an offence to tamper with the mail, send it back unopened to the address on the back or put "Gone away" on the envelope and put it back in the post box.
