is it illegal to open someone elses post? my partner had a letter delivered to a different address and the people who live there have contacted the company who sent it and gave my address as a contact for him! i thought it was against the law to open other peoples post?

yes it is illegal to open any one elses mail, it should be sent back to the sorting office with.. not known at this address on it, then a P.H.G. ( Postman higher grade) can open it if there is no return address on the envelope, however if there is a return address on the envelope they should have written return to sender.
