The Fairway Golfing News Cryptic Crossword
4 Answers
I should start by saying that the clues aren't necessarily the normal cryptic ones you are used to.
I need the answers to 2, so here goes:
1. Yet again the team has suffered relegation to a lower division (10)
_ E _ _ _ O _ I _ _
The "E" is from Persistent (To maintain their handicap, scratch golfers must be this _ E _ S _ S _ _ _ _ )
The "O" is from Avon (This river near Bristol could be a water hazard _ _ _ _ )
The "I" is from Brits (Players going into Europe are often termed this! _ _ _ _ _ )
2. This is not about jumping in the air - Woodhall has them below ground (7)
_ _ R _ _ _ S
The "R" is from Barber (Where male golfers go for a haircut _ _ _ _ _ _ )
The "S" is from Isis (The upper reaches of The Tames, above Oxford _ _ _ _ )
The last letter of the 1st answer corresponds with the 5th letter of the 2nd answer.
Apologies for this long-winded request, but it appears that this compiler tries to provide a tenuous golf link to a word that fits his available squares.
