How long did the charged batterries of a miners headlamp stay working in the NCB days?
Did they have to have a continuous supply of replacements brought down to them?
How good are the modern ones that - say- potholers use.

For an example of a modern cavers lamp, have a look here. (Click on link at bottom right for run times).

It shows a miners standard battery, a fully charged Oldam lead-acid type, 4 volt x 16 Ah with a 3w bulb, has a duration of 21 hours - much longer than a normal shift.

Thanks Heathfield, this was only for interest after noting how long garden solar lghts stay on overnight. Certainly did not think that a miners lamp would have lasted that long, and would have,(I imagine), given off more light.
