Could be Scarf -.. which is also a term used to join bits of wood together by cutting or notching the ends of two pieces..which may be loosely described as "cutting corners " !
Bit of a long shot though .

But ...mitre is a much better answer !
joint that forms a corner; usually both sides are bevelled at a 45-degree angle to form a 90-degree corner
