if your pulled up for speeding in a 30mph zone for instance and you were doing by your speedo 30 but the police say it was 31/32 how can you be sure they are right, and your wrong, seeing as speedos are as accurate as garage airlines, NOT ! should we travel at 28 to be sure were under 30 and annoy every one behind us

It would be unusual to be stopped for doing 32mph. The Association of Chief Police Officers guidelines suggest that speeding prosecutions (or fixed penalties) should not kick in until 35mph. This is based on the limit +10% +2mph guidance. This is to avoid lengthy arguments over speedo calibrations and the like.
If you want to challenge what the police have said you need to establish what method they used to check your speed.

my hubby a long time ago got pulled in a 40 and was told he was doing 58 (it was a long straight dual carriageway) He didn't believe the police and so the copper drove his car and the speed got tested again to see if the speedo was accurate. unfortunately it was and as well as looking like a pillock he got a ticket too!
i know police speedos are calibrated and are separate from their car speedos
i see many posts on various sites saying they have been fined for 32 mph in 30 area
hence i say should we keep to a ridiculous 28 to be sure,i don't think so if the excess starts at 35mph
btw i approve of the 30 and 20 mph reg: as the ad says they are there for a reason
